Pattern, pattern on the wall..
A lot of custom camper van conversions use wood on the ceilings, wood on the walls, wood on the kitchen counters, wood on the floors, wood, wood, wood. As much as I genuinely do enjoy wooden finishes, I have been brainstorming countless alternative options so that I don’t end up with something resembling a log cabin. I prefer to reserve wood for the ceilings and counters.
I don’t like the idea of a very slick finish either because I don’t want it to feel like I’m in a factory-made space like a lot of RVs with molded plastic everywhere. I aim for my camper to feel warm and homey rather than very sleek. I also considered 4-way stretch carpet to line the walls, but these generally only come in boring, solid colors. But then, strolling through IKEA, I came across a by-the-yard fabric that was love at first sight 😍😍😍
The dominant colors of this ”FILODENDRON”print are literally the same color I had picked out for painting either my cabinets or walls: Perfect Storm… and there it was, as a fabric, with birds and butterflies 😍😍😍It’s as if I manifested this damn fabric. The color scheme and nature theme were exactly what I didn’t even know I wanted, nay, needed.
I went back and forth in my head at the store, questioning if I should go with this bold patterned wall finish. Would this be too extra? Too feminine? But I went for it and picked up an abundance of yards of this gorgeous fabric…and I’m SO HAPPY with it.
As I kept making my way through IKEA I also found that this pattern was available as a duvet. What better way to visually expand my tiny space then to seamlessly use matching linens and wall fabric?!! I can’t wait to see this go up alongside the gorgeous pink suede leather I bought on a trip to Mexico City earlier this year. The pinks in the FILODENDRON print are the same exact shade of soft pink as the hide.
